Owen's Spring Tea

Today was the Diamond room's Spring Tea.  We've had it highlighted on Owen's school
calendar on our frig and he has been looking forward to it all month.  It was a beautiful day
so we were able to have it outside on the front lawn at Pilgrim.  All of us parents set up
our blankets and waited for the kids to come out.

When Owen saw us he came running.

He was so excited to have us there with him.
Since Joe didn't have school today he was able to come too, which made Owen feel good.

The first thing the kids did when they came outside was put on a little concert for us.
They sang "Row, Row, Row Your Boat", "Slippery Fish", and "On Top of Spaghetti".

Then Owen went and got the box of treats that he had worked so hard to prepare for us.

We had pretzel rods, cheese cubes, a fruit cup complete with a cocktail umbrella,
mini brownies, Dove chocolates and the cutest little cookies that the kids had made.

They used Nilla Wafers and little pieces of licorice to make flowers on them.

Once we had our snacks, Owen went and poured us all a glass of juice.  Later he told me, "Wanna know why I got you and Joe your juice?  Because guests go first." :)

We hung out on the lawn and enjoyed our snacks, then Owen and Joe spent some time
doing one of their favorite activities...climbing trees.  Every time we leave school the boys
run to one of three trees in the front of school and start climbing.  Normally we are trying to
get home for lunch and I have to cut their climbing short.  Today they were happy to
have the opportunity to get some quality climbing time in.

Owen had two more special surprises in store for me before it was time to go home.
The first was a little jar of colored bath salts the kids made.  They dyed some Epsom salt, filled their jars with it, and then decorated the jar.  I'm glad to see the jars
I gave the class were put to good use.

The second is one of my favorite things we get at the end of the year at Pilgrim...
Owen's Memory book!  It's a collection of art, pictures and stories from throughout the year.

They did story dictation this year so it's fun to read all of the stories Owen told his teachers.
A lot of fighting, someone winning and trophies.  I'm not sure where the competitiveness
comes from.  ;)

It was a really special morning and one that reminds me how thankful I am able to be home
with the kids and experience things like this with them.  Owen was so proud to take care of
us today and I was equally if not more proud of him.  He is growing up so fast!  Next year
this little guy will be in kindergarten!!  Love you Owen!  Thanks for a great morning!
