Water, Water and More Water

What better way to spend our first day without Owen's cast
than a day filled with water and pools??

We started this morning in the backyard playing in the water table and inflatable pool.

Joe was happy to watch Owen do his crazy "canonballs" as he kept calling them.

Or poke at his belly button.  Either seemed just as entertaining to him. ;)

And Owen was happy just being outside in the water.
To point out the obvious, yes, I realize my son is in his underwear.
The swimsuits didn't make it out in time for our pool party, but he didn't seem to mind.

Then this afternoon we met some friends for more fun at the pool.

Needless to say, by the time the day was over
I had one very tired and one very happy little boy on my hands.
Now that's what I call a successful day of work.  :)

Evolution of the Cast

YAY!!  Owen got his cast off today!!  This is definitely the highlight of our week.
It's only been three weeks with the cast, but with a few different trips to the doctor,
and three separate casts, we were ready for it to be off for good.
We've seen our fair share of casts for awhile.

He started with a light blue cast.  I wanted to make it fun for him so I got some permanent markers for people to sign it with. Then Ryan finished it off with some awesome drawings.

Owen started complaining that it was hurting him so I took him in.  Good thing I did
because the cast was rubbing his foot and irritating his skin.  Ouch!

And the bottom of his foot was getting super sweaty so it was also getting irritated.

They put a new cast on and wanted to see us back in a week to check how the skin was doing.  Owen picked a bright orange cast this time and Ryan wasted no time
creating a new masterpiece for him.

Grandpa Joe and Gigi got to sign this one too.

After a week they took the cast off to check the skin and it looked great.  A new cast went back on for one final week.  Owen picked orange again and since we were home in WI over the weekend his cousins got to sign it.

Overall Owen did great with the cast.  He moved around in it like it wasn't even there.
If anything it made him a little more clumsy, but other than that it didn't slow him down in the
least.  The worst part by far for him was getting the xrays taken.  They had him lay down for
the first set of xrays they took and it completely freaked him out.  In all fairness, I can see
how that would be terrifying if you were three.  The next two sets were done standing which
was a little easier, but he was still not thrilled to be there.  He kept letting me know that he
was scared as we were waiting to go int he room.  Poor little guy.  :(

I think we are all happy that Owen is cast free, we have no more xrays to take,
and he can finally take real baths again!!!!  YAY!!

A Night in Kohler

This year for Mother's Day Ryan treated me to a night in Kohler, WI.
We would be able to relax all day at the spa and actually sleep in the next morning.
We were off the clock for a full 24 hours...WOO!!

My mom and Larry helped us by watching the kids while we were away.  Since we were in
Wausau for Memorial Day anyway, it worked out perfectly.  We woke up in the morning,
they took the kids for donuts to distract them, and we were on our way.

We stayed at The Carriage House which is the hotel directly above the spa.  The best part
of that is you can basically walk around in your robes all day long.  We didn't waste any time
getting comfortable in our robes and going to check out the spa.

Our schedule for the day looked a little something like this:

RELAX, RELAX, RELAX
3:00PM - Complimentary Tea and Cookies
4:00PM - Pedicures
5:30PM - Complimentary Happy Hour
7:00PM - Massage for Ryan, Facial for me (BEST FACIAL EVER!!)
8:30PM - Dinner

It was such a great day!  I fully admit that it took me a little bit before I could relax.  It was my
first time away from the kids and I was a little anxious.  I knew my mom and Larry were fully
capable of handling them, but what can I say, I missed them.  Before long however, I was
completely submerged in the worry free spa life.

I'd like to say that the next morning came and I slept in until 9:00AM, but that was not the
case.  Per usual I was up 5:30/6:00AM.  Unfortunately there's no way to let my internal clock
know I get a free pass.  Even though we were up super early, it was so nice to be able to
grab some coffee and then lay back in bed, watch TV and not have to worry
about anyone but ourselves.

Ryan has asked me before "What did we do with ourselves before we had kids?"
This weekend was a little glimpse back into our pre-kid days.  While it was nice for a night,
we were both super happy to get back to see the boys.

Thanks for the amazing and thoughtful Mother's day gift Ryan!!
