New Hobby

Yes.  This mama is officially a knitter!
I've been wanting to learn for awhile, and after looking into hats for the new baby I decided
it was the perfect time to start.  There are such cute things you can make!!  So I went on
YouTube and taught myself what I need to know.  Sure I won't be knitting fancy
sweaters anytime soon, but I'm perfectly happy making teeny tiny hats.
Here is my very first project.  I'm pretty proud with how it turned out.
Next up...matching hats for Owen and the baby.  :)

Splash Pad Encore

What better thing to do on a 88 degree day in mid September than visit the splash pad??
It is one of Owen's favorite things to do after all.

We had just started getting used to the 60 and 70 degree days when Summer decided
to pay us another quick little visit and give us two 80+ degree days last week.
It gave us the perfect opportunity to have one last hurrah at the splash pad.

And as long as we were checking off things on Owen's list of favorite things to do,
we spent some time in the sand box as well.  The digger toy is a little big for him yet,
so he just decided to improvise and find a way that fit him a little better.

As much of a pain in the butt the water and sand are,
Owen has so much fun that it is totally worth the wet, sandy clothes and messy clean up.
Now we just need to find some equally exciting Fall and Winter activities.  :)

A Day at the Ogilvie's

Yesterday Ryan went to watch the BMW Championship golf tournament with his friend Pete,
so Owen and I got to hang out with Pete's wife Francesca and Owen's two little girlfriends,
Annabelle and Juliet.  We don't get to seem them as often as we'd like,
so it was really nice to spend the day together.

The kids kept busy outside jumping on the trampoline,

and playing in Annabelle's "Wooden Chateau."

Owen took quite a liking to their swing too, which was surprising seeing as how he
normally hates the swings at the park and will sit for a maximum of 60 seconds.  This swing is
a little sturdier, so I'm thinking he felt more secure and able to relax.

The kids then took turns dolling themselves up in front of the princess mirror.  With his first
girl cousin on my side of the family coming in just a few months,
I figure it is good practice for him.  :)

But the most exciting thing of the day was Owen showing off his dad's new present for him.
His very own Notre Dame jersey.  Just what every little guy needs.

Water Taxi Ride

With the weather being so nice, we figured it was the perfect day to spend some more
quality time with Grandpa and GiGi down in the city.  We ate lunch then took a nice
long walk along the river.  Owen and Ruby made sure to make plenty of
stops to observe the boats as they passed by.

Once we had walked a ways up the river, Grandpa figured the best and most entertaining
way to get back was a water taxi ride.  I have to admit that not only was this
a first for Owen, but this was a first for his mama as well.

The ride was really relaxing and the kids had a blast.
It was the perfect day to enjoy some time outside with some great company.  :)

The Perfect Headrest

Owen seems to have found the perfect use for this growing baby bump.  :)

Munchkins

Today Owen and I went for his very first day of Munchkins.

It's a small class for kids under the age of 2 that is more structured than a playgroup, but less
structured than an actual preschool class.  It's set up similar to what I would envision a
preschool room set up, but maybe with just a few more toys.  For the majority of the time the
kids have free play, but they also have planned activities as well.

We start each class going to the sink and washing our hands and then the kids get free reign
to explore the room.  During that time there is either an art project or gym equipment out
depending on what day it is.  Today it was an art project.  Owen got to use markers to decorate
a page that will eventually hold his picture.  Truth be told, he was more interested in taking
the caps on and off the markers than he was doing the actual coloring, but we got a few
scribbles in before he was completely bored with it.  Most of the time he was perfectly content
moving from one toy to the next checking out all of his new surroundings.  His favorite
station of the day by far, however, was the rice table.

He kept coming back to it over and over again.  In between visits he made his way over to
the train center and the science center,

kept himself busy working on his fine motor skills,

and established his position early on as "King of the Mountain".

Then we finished the day with circle time where the kids get a snack and sing songs together.
Owen is not the biggest fan of circle time, which I figured going in, but for his first
time he did pretty well.  Practice makes perfect!  :)

Overall it was a great day and I am really excited that we have a fun place to spend our
Monday and Wednesday mornings throughout the school year.
