When Owen started preschool at the beginning of the year I decided I wanted to be involved
and join the parent board. My official position, Special Events Co-chair. I figured it was a
great way for me to meet some new people, become familiar with the school, and fulfill
my nosiness of knowing what was going on behind the scenes.
What I didn't realize is the work that lay ahead of my co-chair and I with the planning of our
50th Anniversary gala celebration. The party was in late April and we started planning all
the way back in October. Looking at venues, caterers, sending out letters to all of the
businesses in the community asking for donations, filling out online forms for donations,
finding a way to get people excited and get them to attend, sending out save the dates and
invitations, organizing and planning the silent auction from the donations we received..the
list is endless. It was the equivalent of planning a wedding and a silent auction of about
$9,000 worth of items at the same time.
While my tired, pregnant self was a bit worn out at times, my type A, organizing self loved it!
I love staying home with the boys, but it made me realize how much I love feeling busy with
things other than schedules, play dates, nap times, etc. I enjoyed the busy work and felt a
huge sense of accomplishment when the day finally came and we got to see the product of
our months of hard work. It was an amazing night and everyone had a blast!
The photo booth was by far one of the highlights of the evening. So much fun!!
Happy 50th Anniversary Pilgrim!! We "picked" a winner of a school.
