We were lucky enough to have The Barnett's come and visit us this weekend. I was talking
to Sarah on Thursday and neither of us had anything exciting planned for the weekend.
They hopped in the car that afternoon and were on their way to visit us.
How is that for an impromptu trip?? We had such a great time!
We started the weekend with some Pequod's pizza, a favorite for sure!
While Ryan and Stacey picked up the pizza, the rest of us just "hung out" at the park.
Saturday morning we were up bright and early for our weekly trek to the
farmer's market for fresh made donuts and waffles.
We made it back home just in time for the parade that happened to be starting only 3 blocks
from our house. This was the first Oak Park parade I had been to, and I was pleasantly
surprised. Lots of fun people to watch, and lots of candy for the boys! Owen's friend
Asher saw us and came to sit with us which made it even more fun.
After the parade we went home to prepare for our 4th of July feast! Ryan had been
marinating ribs overnight, then spent all afternoon slow cooking them and making his own
barbeque sauce. Definitely worth all the time he spent because they were hands down the
most delicious ribs I've ever had! Sarah and I put our energy into something equally
if not more important....dessert!
We made time for some family pics...
then finished the evening off with fireworks. Some of our own....
And some of the much larger variety. It was the boys' first time at a big fireworks show
and they did great! Other than Joe wanting to take off through the dark crowds
like a stealth ninja every time I turned my back, it was a lot of fun.
Alex's birthday is today which was the perfect end to our weekend.
We helped him celebrate with birthday donuts and Portillo's chocolate cake.
If Joe falling asleep before we even made it to lunch is any indication of how much fun
we had this weekend, I think it's pretty safe to say we had an amazing time.
Thanks for coming to visit Barnetts!! And a very happy birthday Alex!!
