Rolling Machine

Here is proof that Owen knows how to roll from his back to front...
he just chooses not to stay there.

I swear this kid might just skip crawling
and move right to walking.

Busy Bee

It's been awhile since my last post,
so I thought I would take a minute to bring everyone up to speed.

Over the past week Owen and I have been busy.
Here is a little breakdown of our week.

We've been spending our time....

- Doing Lots of Jumping

He gets going so much that he jumps in the air
and kicks both feet out  to the sides so he actually gets air.
It's pretty hilarious to watch.

- Practicing our rolling in the hopes that he'll eventually
start to become more fond of his tummy.

Though here it looks like he is pretty content on his back.

- Taking our big boy stroller seat for a test drive,
 "Hello from my new stroller"

- Trying some more new foods.

This week we tried pears and sweet potatoes
and he loved them both.
A very different response from the bananas and avocados.

- And practicing drinking out of our new sippy cup.

We don't always make it in our mouth,

but practice makes perfect.  :)

All that fun during the day can really wear a little guy out.

When you fall asleep with a toy in your mouth
it's clear you've had quite a fun day.

Success!

Guess who ate their entire bowl of Avocado today????

THIS GUY!!!!

Ryan is convinced he is saying...."AAAAAAAAAAvocado!"

 What started out as gagging,
has turned into cute little hums between bites.

We've come a long way from our very first avocado encounter.

Avocad-NO!

Since bananas weren't making that big of an impression,
we decided to give avocados a try last night.

The verdict is out...

Avocados are ranked even lower than bananas.
At least with bananas he would eat a few spoonfuls!
He wasn't in love with them by any means, but he tolerated them.

I put a spoonful of avocado in his mouth and he immediately gags.
Then he tries to hide his face behind the bib.
No, I am not kidding!

Or he holds the bite in his mouth and as soon as I take the spoon away,
he spits it right back out.
Again, not kidding.  This kid is smart!

We'll keep trying and hopefully he will develop a taste for them.
Believe it or not Owen, avocados are really good for you,
and some day you will LOVE them!!

BOO Bananas

It's Official....

Owen is not bananas over bananas.

I was so excited thinking that compared to rice cereal he would LOVE bananas.
Not so much.
It seems he would be happy to never eat bananas again.

Unfortunately buddy you won't be that lucky, but we'll make a deal.
We'll take a break on the bananas and tomorrow take on a new beast....

Avocados!!
Don't worry Owen, you're going to love them!

Sleep Jumping

We had some people working on our house today
so inevitably I had to keep Owen up a little past his normal nap time.

We were having a great time playing in the jumperoo to
keep busy while they finished up in his room.

I had to run upstairs for a maximum of 2 minutes to answer a question
and I came down the stairs to find this...

I think it is safe to say that this little guy was exhausted.
A big day at the doctor's office and no real morning nap will do that to you.

Mom's executive decision...Kicked the handyman out of his room and put him in bed.
He doesn't really need a light installed in his closet that bad.

Happy Birthday to Me!! :)

So in case anyone was wondering why I love my husband so much,
here is just one of the many reasons.

He knows how to make me feel extra special on my birthday.

Let me give you a quick glimpse into my day.

I start the day waking up to a festively decorated house.

As I walk into the dining room, I see my gift waiting for me on the table.

Let me preface this by saying that Ryan is the most thoughtful gift giver there is.
He remembers things I want, that even I had forgotten about!
He's so good that I get nervous when it is my turn to return the favor because
I feel like I can never even compare to how great his gift was for me.

This year was no exception.
Inside my gift bag was a note that told me to check my email.

So I went to the computer and found the gift that any new mom with a 6 month old
would tell you is the PERFECT birthday present....a Spa Day!!
Yep, that's right.  This girl is going to the Spa for a day!!

A day which includes:
- A Detoxifying Seaweed Wrap
- A Warm Cream Manicure
- A Warm Cream Pedicure
- A Facial or Massage
-Lunch
- And a complimentary makeup application so I can leave looking completely refreshed

To be honest, there is not a gift in the world (at this moment in my life)
that would make me happier than a day just lounging around and relaxing at the spa.
Don't get me wrong, I love being a stay at home Mom,
but a day relaxing, not worrying about anything, sounds absolutely wonderful!

And just when I thought my day couldn't get any better,
he made my favorite two breakfast dishes from Grandma Sally's:
Bacon, egg and cheese Quesadillas AND Cheese blintzes.
I'm aware it is a crazy combination, but they are both SO delicious!

The picture does not do it justice.
(truth be told, I was so excited I started eating and got about halfway
before I realized I forgot to take a picture.  So I tried to put
my plate back together the best I could.)

And for dessert....
a cake he woke up early to bake.
(Yep, forgot to take the picture before I dug into this one too).

We decided to finish the celebration with dinner at Parker's Restaurant in Downers Grove.
Not our usual choice, but we had a gift card to use so I figured, why not?
I am so glad we did because it turned out to be one of the
most delicious birthday dinners ever!

Any restaurant that has cotton candy on the dessert menu
is a winner in my book.
I didn't even order it, but they brought me a small taste because I was so intrigued.
Cotton candy made out of all natural maple brown sugar.
It tasted like toasted marshmallows.
SO GOOD!!!!

The perfect end to the perfect day!

So as I sit here tonight starting my 32nd year of life (yes that means I'm 31),
I am thankful for a thoughtful husband who knows how to make me
feel like the most special girl in the world.
I am thankful for an amazing family and group of friends who called me throughout the day
to offer their birthday wishes.
And I am thankful for the cutest, sweetest son who to this point does excellent with
babysitters to make a night like tonight stress free.
Happy Happy birthday to Me!!
