Aside from it being an overall awesome resort, another benefit of staying at the Polynesian
is O'hana, one of the character meals we've been wanting to try, is right in our hotel. I've
heard it's delicious for dinner, but when you go for breakfast you get to meet Lilo and
Stitch. The kids were up bright and early and we were dressed and ready to go with
time to spare before our breakfast reservation.
Stitch was waiting outside the doors of the restaurant to take photos before we went in. The story is he's not allowed in the restaurant or he'll get into mischief. It was really nice though
because they have a photo pass photographer there so it was a great character photo op.
Once we were inside Lilo, Mickey and Pluto came to the table while we were eating.
They even did a little parade with all the kids that was really cute. I have to share this video because it makes me laugh every time I watch it. Owen and Joe get so embarrassed doing
things like this and you can 100% see it on their faces as they approach us. Joe even
makes a bee line right out of line as he gets to us. He puts his head down like he's so
ashamed. Maybe you had to be there to appreciate it, but it cracks me up.
It was a delicious breakfast and a fun start to our morning.
After breakfast our plan was to get to Epcot right as it opened and head to Frozen Ever After since we weren't able to get a fast pass for it. It seemed so simple. The monorail makes a
big loop between all of the resorts and the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) which is
where you connect to the Epcot monorail. What I didn't realize was our hotel was directly
next to the TTC. It didn't dawn on me until after we had made the entire loop to all of the
other resorts and ended at the TTC, only to see our hotel within walking distance.
A ride that took us over 15 minutes, could have been a quick 5 minute walk.
Lesson learned. The boys didn't seem to mind the ride though and
we made it to Epcot only a few minutes after they opened.
We hurried over to the Frozen ride but by the time we got there the wait was already 45
minutes. Thankfully there's a lot to look at in line, plus there was a little girl ahead of us that
the boys made friends with. They kept each other busy for the majority of the wait. This
was our first time riding Frozen and I thought it was pretty cute. Nothing spectacular,
but fun in a sing-a-long kind of way like the Little Mermaid ride.
After Frozen we decided to pick up the pace a little bit and go on Test Track. Joe and I had
never been on this ride before either. Ryan took Owen the last time we were here, but I
couldn't go because I was pregnant with Miles. Between Joe and I, one of us really
enjoyed it and the other was a bit terrified. I'll give you one guess who was who.
In Joe's defense, there are a lot of quick starts and turns and you go around a track at
roughly 65 mph in an open car. That's a lot of action for a four year old.
The rest of our day at Epcot was spent going on Spaceship Earth, another ride I have
surprisingly never been on before, Gran Fiesta, Nemo & Friends, lunch at
Sunshine Seasons and visiting more characters.
Joe really wanted to meet Baymax, but there was a fairly long line when we stopped by
earlier in the morning. As we were leaving Epcot to go back to the hotel and rest, we
decided to brave the wait. There were plenty of other things we had waited for that I wanted
to do, and this was something Joe was specifically asking for. I wanted to make him feel
special and make sure I was taking into account what the kids actually wanted to do
vs. the things I thought they would have fun with.
After that we were all more than ready to go back to the hotel and rest for a little bit. Miles
was so tired he even fell asleep on our way there. All three boys napped and Ryan and I
got to sit on our balcony overlooking the resort grounds. It was really relaxing. That is until
I heard a noise and walked back in the room to find Owen had woken up and walked out of
the hotel room looking for us. He was halfway down the hallway talking to a family by the
time I saw him. Yikes! Thank goodness I heard him!
Joe woke up a few minutes later so I decided to take the two of them down to the pool. That was something we never did on our last trip. We never took the time to just relax and enjoy
the resort. I'm so glad we did this time. The water was a little cold, but the boys loved it.
There was a water slide and Owen went down it probably 20 times minimum. They had little
life jackets so Joe floated around and watched Owen go. It was a great break in our day.
After we were sufficiently chilled (literally and figuratively) we went back to the hotel room to
get dressed. The plan was to go back to Magic Kingdom for the evening so we could watch
the fireworks. We headed over and ate dinner at Pinocchio Village Haus, a restaurant
overlooking It's A Small World, then took a nighttime ride on the iconic People Mover.
Finally it was time to find our spot for the fireworks. It was crazy busy!! We were lucky to be able to squeeze into a small spot right at the end of Main Street in front of the castle. It was
an amazing view of a beyond beautifully decorated castle.
We still had a lot of time to kill and there was no way Miles was going to sit still, so he and
Ryan went looking for snacks. There were huge lines everywhere but he managed to come
back with cotton candy and a bag of gummy Goofys. Joe was super excited about the
gummy candy and proceeded to eat a huge handful in a matter of a minute. Apparently it
did not agree with his stomach because minutes before the fireworks started he threw up.
Thankfully I saw it coming and managed to aim him into the bag the snacks were in.
I'm hoping no one even noticed.
Since we had waited all that time and he was feeling a little better, we stayed to watch the
show. He rested in the stroller with Ryan while I held Owen up to watch it. It was such an
awesome show!! I'm adding a You Tube video of it here to look back on because
I think it is so cool what they can do.
We had another awesome day and it just deepens my love for the magic of Disney.
I can hardly wait to see what fun awaits us tomorrow.
