Happy Halloween

This is the second year in a row where the weather on Halloween was far from pleasant.  Although it wasn't snowing like last year, it rained most of the day which put a damper
on things (literally).  Thankfully the rain stopped near the end of the day so we
were able to get out for a little trick or treating with Max and Ruby.

This year Owen's costumes of choice for himself and Joe were dinosaurs.  While Owen was
super excited to wear his costume, Joe wanted nothing to do with his and fought me on it
every time I tried to put it on him.  Somehow I managed to get him in it for trick or treating...
possibly the promise of candy if he wore it.  ;)

The kids had so much fun!  They sprinted from house to house to the point
where Joe and I could barely keep up.

We worked on our trick or treating etiquette and explained to Owen that while
"give me candy" may elicit a laugh, "trick or treat" is far more polite.

They quickly learned that some of the doors just won't open no matter how
hard you knock or how much you peek in the windows.

After a total of 4 blocks the kids decided to call it a day.  Truthfully I think they couldn't
wait any longer to get back home and dig into their trick or treat bags.

Happy Halloween!!

Pumpkin Decorating

Tonight we decided to decorate pumpkins.  The boys painted their pumpkins while Ryan and I carved ours.  They had so much fun!  For two boys who lose interest in things relatively quickly, I was surprised with how much attention they showed their pumpkins.

And the final product....

Goebbert's 2015

Today we made our annual trip to Goebbert's Farm in Barrington.

It's perfect.  Not too far away, tons to do, and if you get there right at 9AM when it opens, it's not too crowded.  The boys love it and Ryan and I love taking them there.

Our first stop...feeding the giraffes.  Owen was a little more reluctant this year,
but can you blame him??  Look at that thing's tongue!

You would hold a few carrots out in your fingers and it would stick it's humongous tongue
out, wrap it all the way around them and pull them in.  Truthfully a little intimidating.
Especially when the giraffe comes a little too close and licks all over your fingers.

Joe on the other hand was more than happy to give it a try.

Ryan decided to let the giraffe eat out of the palm of his hand,
but quickly realized that may have not been the best idea.  Gross!

Then we let the boys run around and explore a bit.

Owen's favorite thing by far was the jumping pillow.  He LOVED it!!

After all that exercise we grabbed a quick snack,

then headed to one of my favorite activities of the day...the pig races.  Hilarious!!
Seriously such a funny thing to watch.

We couldn't have asked for a better day. Until next year Goebbert's.
