Normally when we go to the zoo we follow a routine loop to check out our favorite animals.
But today we decided to throw our routine out the window and see what other fun the zoo
has to offer. I let Owen lead the way. We started with the butterfly exhibit. The boys loved
it! You walk into a big greenhouse made of netting and there are butterflies
flying all over for you to look at.
We quickly came to realize that they loved the color of Owen's shirt. He had three different
butterflies land on him. I think it's safe to say the first one caught him a little by surprise.
After Owen saw other people taking pictures, he decided he wanted to use my phone
to take some pictures of his own. I think he did a pretty great job.
He even followed one with the camera to take a picture of it flying.
I decided to take a few of my own pics too. It's hard to resist.
The boys' next activity of choice...the carousel.
At first Owen wanted to sit on the stationary peacock bench,
but it didn't take him long to decide he'd rather ride on something a little more exciting.
And yes, by more exciting I do mean a penguin.
Joe was a little apprehensive at first,
but quickly gained his confidence and had a blast.
Within steps of the carousel is a Mold-a-rama machine. Owen immediately ran to it and wanted to try it. In the spirit of letting them run their zoo day, I agreed to buy one.
And honestly, who doesn't want a red wax giraffe lying around their house??
After all of our excitement we still managed to walk around to check out a few animals and
then decided to call it a day. Little did we know we had one more surprise in store for us.
We passed a zoo employee showcasing a big red snake. I let Owen explore this one
all on his own. He even pet it. Yikes! I'll stick to my red wax giraffe.
Thanks for a fun day at the zoo Owen and Joe!! Best tour guides ever!!
